Travel to France

Find your way to the South West part of France

By plane

The nearest airport is Nice which is approximately 100 kms from St André. It is a major airport served my many airlines including British Airways, Aer Lingus and Easyjet http://www.nice.aeroport.fr/

Marseille airport is slightly further away at approximately 170kms from St André and is also served by British Airways and Easyjet http://www.marseille.aeroport.fr

By car from the UK

There a large number of ferry companies offering Channel crossings http://www.directferries.co.uk but Eurotunnel is the quickest way to make the crossing from Folkestone to Calais.  The drive from Calais to St André takes around 12 hours if you use the motorways, whilst the scenic route is slower but much prettier.

The other option is to take the French motorail which transports you and your car overnight from Calais to Nice and it is less then an hour and a half drive from Nice to St André. http://www.raileurope.co.uk/frenchmotorail

Getting from Nice to St André

There are a number of options available depending on whether you want to have your own transport while you are here.  Below is a brief summary and we would be happy to help advise you on the best travel arrangements to fit in with your holiday plans and travel times.

By coach

There is a daily coach that travels to and from Nice airport (Terminal 1) to Gap stopping at St André en route.  It costs around 12 euros for a single trip and takes just under 2 hours.  If your flight times work with the coach times, and you don’t need a car while you are in St André, then this is a great option.  Please click here for the current timetable but for quick reference, the coach normally leave St Andre at 10.45am arriving at the airport at 12.30pm and the return journey leaves Nice airport around 3.20pm arriving in St Andre at 5.00pm and we will be happy to collect you from the bus stop. (NB: this coach service does not operate on a Sunday) Please contact us if you need more information.

Train

The Chemin de Fer (mountain railway) runs 4 times daily between Nice and Digne les Bains.  The journey from Nice to St André takes around 2 ½ hours and the cost is approx 15 euros for a single trip.  The current timetables can be found via this link http://www.trainprovence.com

NB: The Chemin de Fer train station is not the same location as the main SNCF train station in Nice - the easiest option is to get a taxi from the airport to the Nice Gare du Sud - around a 15 minute ride away.

If you use either of these forms of transport, we would be happy to collect you from St André and bring you up to the house.

Car hire

All the major car hire companies operate out of Nice airport but it worth booking in advance through either Holiday Autos or Nova Car Hire who search all the suppliers to get you the cheapest deal http://www.holidayautos.co.uk or  http://www.novacarhire.com

Motorbike hire

For an alternative means of transport you can hire a Harley Davidson from Eagle Rider in Antibes and experience the thrill of the mountain roads from the back of this classic motorbike.
